Leaves and Roots
The leaves are beginning to show themselves on the trees.
It is a promise, a whisper of what is to come.
But before the leaf, comes the root.
The root is the life — the hidden life,
the life that works in the dark and asks no praise.
It pushes through the soil, through the cold and the silence,
patient and quiet.
And because the root does its work without show,
the leaf can afford to be beautiful.
