The rib is a curved bone that sits inside the chest.
Most people have twelve pairs of ribs on each side of the body.
Ribs form a cage that wraps around the heart and lungs to keep them safe.
The ribs are joined to the spine at the back and connect to the breastbone in the front.
When you take a deep breath, the ribs move slightly to help your lungs grow bigger.
Sometimes, strong coughing or a hard bump can make a rib feel sore or even break.
